Big Dreams Outdoors at Honey Brake Lodge: An Adventure of a Lifetime

When we set out for the iconic Honey Brake Lodge in Louisiana, we knew we were in for something special, but what we experienced over the next three days was far beyond our expectations. This trip wasn’t just about outdoor adventure—it was about creating unforgettable memories and breaking down barriers. It was a chance to witness the transformative power of the outdoors and the bonds formed between people, no matter their abilities.

Our time at Honey Brake was a celebration of inclusivity, connection, and the shared joy of being outside. One of the most extraordinary parts of this adventure was watching a group of incredible individuals—some with special needs—take part in activities that many might have thought were beyond their reach. They were hunting hogs at night using thermal scopes, fishing the river for crappie, and taking part in thrilling rounds of sporting clays. The experience was eye-opening and heartwarming for everyone involved.

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to share this journey with some of our closest supporters. The Jones family, one of our sponsors, made this trip even more memorable. Their kindness and enthusiasm were contagious, and it was a joy to watch them spend quality time with Blake, Justin, and Cordarius—three individuals whose perseverance and determination were truly inspiring. Seeing them bond with the Jones family and partake in all the adventures was nothing short of magical. It reminded us that the outdoors has the power to unite us in ways we never imagined.

Another highlight was having our dear friends James Cochrane and his son Jay join us. Their involvement made the trip even more special. James’ support over the years has been instrumental in helping us continue our mission, and having him by our side, along with his son, was the perfect way to celebrate what we’d accomplished together. The laughter and fun that filled those three days were unmatched.

The time spent at Honey Brake didn’t just leave a lasting impact on us—it had a profound effect on the staff as well. The team at Honey Brake has always prided themselves on providing world-class experiences, but this trip shifted their perspectives in a beautiful way. Watching individuals with disabilities fully embrace these outdoor activities opened their eyes to the boundless potential of every person, regardless of their abilities. They came to see that the outdoor world is not just for some, but for all. It was a powerful moment of growth and understanding for the Honey Brake staff, and we could feel the change in the air.

As we reflected on our time at Honey Brake Lodge, we were reminded of the reason we do what we do at Big Dreams Outdoors: to give people the chance to experience the beauty of the world through new eyes and to provide opportunities for those who may have been overlooked by traditional outdoor adventures. This trip was one for the books—a perfect example of how the outdoors can bring people together and change lives.

Thanks to the support of amazing people like the Jones family, James and Jay Cochrane, and of course, the incredible team at Honey Brake Lodge, we were able to create an experience that will be cherished for a lifetime. We look forward to many more adventures ahead, with more laughs, more memories, and more lives changed by the magic of the great outdoors.

If there’s one thing we learned on this trip, it’s that Big Dreams Outdoors isn’t just about achieving big dreams—it’s about making dreams possible for everyone, no matter their ability.
